Dancing has helped shape me into the person that I am, it’s something that brings me so much joy… but sometimes I feel very frustrated and disappointed in myself when I can’t do something to the ability that I want to- I work over and over and just don’t get it. But then I have to stop and think that… I’ve been doing this for such a long time that I know I can do better and figure it out; and once I get over that little hurdle in the process, it makes me feel STRONG and it makes me feel that I can accomplish anything. That’s why it means so much to me.
I started competing at Dance Masters of California Solo Title Competitions as an 8-year-old in 2nd grade, and finally won at 12 years old in 6th grade. I had received 1st runner-up for 3 of those 5 years, and most talented non-finalist after coming back from a broken foot. It was really hard coming so close year after year and not coming out on top. Instead of letting it hold me back, I used it as a reason to keep persisting and working as hard as I could to be better the next year. In 2018… I won!
Last year, as Junior Miss Dance of California, I got to experience the Dance Masters of America competition, and it was so amazing! It was really nice to meet new friends from across the country and be there with the people I love most- my family and friends from South Bay Dance Center. I received 1st runner-up to Junior Miss Dance of America, and the awards for top tap and ballet. I never DREAMED that I could place that high at Nationals, and I’m so glad I got the chance to represent DMC at the competition.
There are so many people that helped me get to where I am and who support me every day. I am so grateful.
I LOVE to dance!
